Central Croatia

Central Croatia is the  region located in the very hart of  Croatia.

This region is located between rivers Sava, Drava and Mura. Popular tourist destinations in Central Croatia are cities Zagreb (capital city of Croatia), Varazdin, Samobor, Zapresic, Velika Gorica, Turopolje, Velika Mlaka, Krapina, Cakovec, Bjelovar, Karlovac, Sisak and many others.

It borders  with Bosnia and Herzegovina  in the south and Slovenia and Hungary in the north.

Many of those towns have large historical heritage, many beautiful  castles (Trakoscan, Veliki tabor, Laduc, Miljana, Marusevec, Opeka…), churches (St. Barbara`s in Velika Mlaka, St. Mary`s of Jeruzalem in Krapina, St. Nicholas` in Varazdin, St. Ana`s in Cakovec, Zagreb`s cathedral…), parks of nature (Lonjsko polje)…

Tourist attractions in Central Croatia are :  hunting tourism, business tourism, agro tourism…
Marija Bistrica is most known pilgrimage sanctuary in Croatia.
Then there are many spas in this part of Croatia such as Stubice`s, Krapina`s, Tuhelj`s, Varazdin`s spa… Other tourist attractions are rafting on Kupa, hiking, walking in beautiful nature.
All main traffic roads in Central Croatia are passing through  City of Zagreb. Central Croatia is populous, economic and urbanisated area in Croatia. You can find accommodation in hotels, apartments, rooms, camps…

Central Croatia included the Croatian Littoral, the Croatian Dinaric Alps (Kordun, Lika, and Gorski kotar), the Croatian Highlands, and Medjimurje.

It covers around a third of the country’s territory and around a half of the country’s population (2.16 million), with 110 people per square kilometer.
